holding up banners. security a big concern in the bay area. donald trump speaking at the california g.o.p. convention in burlingame at noon today. bring in christien kafton live in burlingame with information about who is going to be attending and the security measures in place. activity levels starting to pick up here at the height. we have seen what we suspect are some of the first attendees now starting to arrive, the state's 172 delegates are in play and the convention expected to be one of the most attended g.o.p. conventions in years. come june california could play a very big role in deciding who will be the republican nominee. >> depending on what happens in indiana and the other states that are remaining, this election could be decided in california. >> reporter: in a matter of hours the convention will launch with a lunch banquet kicked off by donald trump. john kasich is scheduled to speak at a banquet dinner tonight and ted cruz is

scheduled to headline tomorrow's luncheon with his running mate, carly fiorina set to deliver the keynote speech tomorrow night. you saw the video out of orange county and already protesters have pledged to come out in force today. the city of burlingame police department called in mutual aid from surrounding agencies to make sure the event is safe for convention goers and for protesters. police on scene here saying they are expecting anywhere from 500 to 3000 protesters. their plan is flexible. they are considering shutting down old bay highway where the hyatt is located if they need to. >> we have contingency plans in place if traffic is shut down due to high level protesters and demonstrators going rogue and decide to block traffic. >> reporter: back to our live shot, you can see some of the barricades have been set up from signs from the hyatt saying the hotel area is closed for a private function today. again, we are hearing that the first protesters set to show up as early as 9:00. we will have continuing coverage for you throughout the

welcome back. new this morning, the pentagon reportedly disciplined 16 u.s. service members for mistakes that led to that deadly airstrike on a doctors without borders hospital in northern afghanistan last fall. however, the "l.a. times" says they will not face criminal charges. the punishment follow a six month investigation by the pentagon of that attack in october. 42 medical workers, patients and other afghans were killed when the u.s. bombs hit the wrong target. dozens more were hurt. for the second time in a matter of weeks, north korea has sentenced an american citizen to prison. kim dong chu was detained three months ago on suspicion of engaging and spying and stealing state secrets. now, he's a south korean born

american citizen. he works and lives near the chinese-north korean border. after a brief trial today he was sentenced to 10 years hard labor labor. last year another sentenced to 15 years of hard labor while removing a banner from a hotel. new documentary on the life of audrey potts. she is the south bay teenager who took her own life after she was sexually assaulted, then bullied on social media. it was a painful night for audrey's parents who are among all those attending the premiere at the san francisco film festival. they said they hoped this film will put a spotlight on the devastating effects of cyber bullying, especially on young people. >> tough night for us because it really opens up some wounds whenever we see the movie. >> just takes one voice to stop

an event that could go horribly, horribly south like it did in audrey's case and it could change someone's life forever. >> two san francisco filmmakers made the documentary after they were touched by audrey's tragic story which happened four years ago. saratoga high school sophomore passed out at a party and was sexually assaulted, then photos of her half naked body were later posted on social media. she committed suicide just a few days later. our time is 7:14. the california state assembly refused to pass a resolution that would have created a day to honor john wayne. state assembly leaders rejected it because of statements the legendary movie star made by racial minorities. matthew harper wanted to declare may 26th, 2016 as john wayne day marking the day john wayne was born. however, opposing lawmakers quickly attacked that resolution citing john wayne's public comments criticizing minorities and also for his

little bit of slow traffic here still coming up over from pittsburgh to bay point and into concord. not a terrible commute but we always wish it were lighter on a friday. i do want to mention that at the bay bridge toll plaza we have a big backup, a 20, maybe 25 minute delay at the toll plaza. i tell you where it is lighter than usual and that's in the santa clara valley on the way to the silicon valley right now, driving on 101, 280 or 285 or even 237, there are brief slowdowns but you can tell it's definitely lighter than usual here. 7:16. go to rosemary. >> here i am. now you can talk to me. >> yes, i can. >> we have great weather out there. we are with a mix of sun and clouds, the shot here of the oakland estuary has cleared out pretty good and we are looking at pretty weather for your afternoon today. a bit of a cool-in in santa rosa to start your morning, 47 degrees, 59 in san francisco so a nice little jump there, 53 in oakland, low 50s in livermore and 52 for san jose. most of us starting out very similar to yesterday morning,

so no surprises when you get out there this morning, it's just about how we felt on thursday. we do have that ridge over the pacific, gosh, about 1500 miles off the coastline and it continues to bring us that north breeze and west into the afternoon. we have a second system, this one, that will be dropping in over the course of the next 24 hours. that is going to give our winds a shift so today we are with the west-northwest wind, by tomorrow it's north-northeast and that will help to warm us up as we get into your saturday. for today a little breezy in the afternoon, temperatures similar to yesterday, a lot of mid to upper 70s for the warmer spots, 60s and mid-70s around the bay. we are looking at the forecast for your afternoon today. this could be a problem for some of us. going to be a little pesky, the wind, as we get into the afternoon, 10 to 15 miles per hour which isn't bad but then we see a few spots like redwood city, santa rosa, 22 miles per hour so could be a little bit breezy into the afternoon. notice the wind there, the arrow, west-northwest, this is

pick in the first round. they picked deforest buckner. he played one year under the new 49er coach chip kelly. with the 28th pick in the first round they chose joshua burnet. rounds two and three of the draft is today. the 49ers have the fifth pick of the third round. meantime, 49er quarterback colin kaepernick will not be going to denver, at least for now. the broncos general manager john elway says he's no longer negotiating with cheaper 96 after -- chapper kaepernick -- asked for a trade back in february. the oakland raiders have two draft picks today. with the 14th pick of the first round they selected carl joseph, a safety from west virginia who may replace charles woodson who retired last season. oakland has the 13th pick of

the round 2 and the 12th of round three. raiders owner mark davis told nevada tourism officials he wants to move his team to las vegas. he's a proceedings a $1.4 billion dome stadium off the vegas strip and next to the airport. davis pledged $500 million toward construction if a public private financing plan is approved by the nevada state legislator. the oakland mayor says she is not surprised other cities are courting the raiders but oakland is committed to finding a solution to the stadium issue. >> we have gotten through our negotiations and now we are hitting the ground running to get the raiders a permanent stadium that is responsible to the taxpayers, to the fans, to the nfl and to that great team that belongs in oakland. >> his goal is to find a stadium and find a home. any relocation by the raiders has to be approved by 24 of the 32 nfl owners. david beckham at that

just a few minutes to tell you how you can get in on the action without even buying a ticket. that's coming up in a few. welcome back to mornings on 2. it's a gorgeous friday morning, april 29th. i'm gasia mikaelian. >> and i'm dave clark. let's talk about your weather. rosemary is in for steve this morning. rosemary. >> we have great weather coming our way. we have a warmup coming our way. for today, temperatures very mild, very similar to yesterday, maybe just a touch warmer than what we had thursday afternoon. as we get into your bay area weekend, 80s in the forecast for some of our inland communities, here's a view over areas of oakland and now onto the numbers where we have temperatures in the 40s in santa rosa, novato and napa. a chilly number for some. now the sun is up and shining we will see that rebound in and around sfo, as well as redwood city, in the upper 40s. in the east bay, low 50s, we have 51 in livermore and into the south bay 52 degrees outside your door san jose. partly to mostly cloudy skies this morning, we will turn partly cloudy for your afternoon. we will turn breezy as well, at least for some right along the

coast inside the bay and over our hills for tonight, actually, a wind advisory, that will come late tonight. but temperaturewise, low 60s at the coast, we have the 60s and mid-70s from inside our bay and then as we get into the inland areas, mid to upper 70s in the forecast. when i come back, afternoon highs for the region today and again that big warmup coming our way in time for your weekend. good morning, sal. we are looking at a decent community, rosemary. right now traffic is going to be a little bit slow in some areas but the golden gate bridge traffic in marin, that looks good heading south. no issues heading down to the toll plaza. the traffic is backed up for 20, maybe 25 minute delay. lots of times on fridays we have better than this but it might clear up. some of the other commutes have been nice. i want to show you the south bay, the road sensors are not showing us a lot. there is slow traffic in mountview on 101 parts of

sunnyvale. 880 from hayward city to fremont, dunbarton bridge getting con adjusted heading over to the peninsula. new developments in last weekend's double homicide in san jose. the eldest of two sons accused of killing their parents is due in court due to make his first court appearance later today. ktvu fox 2's brian flores here in our newsroom with more on that and also what he's saying about his younger brother also accused of murder. >> yeah, the man accused of being the mastermind behind this alleged murder is 22-year- old hasib golamrabbi, expected to make his first court appearance at noon today. also happening today will be the memorial and burial of his parents. but before that, he gave the jail house interview with the "san francisco chronicle" as we talked about, dave, many people are wondering the reason behind the alleged killing. now, he told the paper, and i'm quoting here, the best thing if anyone wants to know what happened is to wait for the trial. he would not comment on his own guilt or innocence but he did

say that his 17-year-old brother is innocent. their parents, goala and sha memea robbie were shot and killed at their home last sunday. >> he never used to talk to people, he used to walk around from himself from what i remember. >> they are a normal family, they leave private life and we don't get a chance to hang out with them a lot. but they appear normal. >> there's still no official word from police of a possible motive two days after police arrested the two brothers, but a source tells ktvu fox 2 at least three messages were written in ink and then scrawled on the floors and walls near one of the bodies. hasib and his younger brother being held without bail. a prayer service for their parents taking place at 1:30 this afternoon at the muslim community center in santa clara. they will then be laid to rest at a cemetery in livermore. dave, back to you. >> brian flores, thank you. 7:33.

the brother of the san bernardino gunman syed farook may get up to five years in prison for allegedly arranging a sham marriage for his sister- in-law. a search warrant was served yesterday in riverside county at the home of syed farook's older brother. now, the brother and his wife, they are u.s. citizens and her sister from russia, they appeared in federal court a short time later. they are charged in the conspiracy to get a green card for the sister by paying a friend $200 a month for a sham marriage. gun control advocates, they are taking bold action to toughen california's already tough gun laws. lieutenant governor gavin newsom says he will turn in more than half million signatures today to put a gun control initiative on the november ballot. that proposal would require background checks when you buy ammunition. it would also have a process for felons to relinquish their weapons and also require gun owners to report lost or stolen guns. now, gun rights groups, they

have pledged to block that initiative. time is 7:35. the state is demanding pg&e pay $90 million to cal fire for the devastating butte fire. the fire forced evacuations up in amador county last september and burned for three weeks spreading into calaveras county. two people died in the fire. it burned through 71,000 acres and destroyed 550 homes. three days after it started, pg&e said a pine tree slumped onto one of its powerlines and started the fire. a san francisco -- as san francisco undergoes a building boom the city is considering tougher safety rules when it comes to the construction cranes you see towering over the city. since 2013 56 construction cranes have risen in san francisco. at a hearing yesterday there were calls for local regulation changes. crane safety has captured the attention of the board of supervisor following recent fatal construction crane collapses in new york city in february and just last month in florida. the city is considering changes such as having onsite safety

time 7:42. in baltimore, a man wearing some kind of animal costume was shot by police after he walked into a fox tv station claiming he had a bomb. this happened yesterday. the man walked into the station, demanded that they cover a specific news story, then threatened to blow up the station. and what is believed to be his car was found with flames coming out of the gas tank. employees were immediately evacuated out of the building and the police were called. >> several of us were on the other side of the street. we could see the guy pacing back and forth, sitting there just standing like just relaxed

and he had on the suit but his jacket was open and he had a red vest. he had a red vest on and you could see the red vest with something, some device and he was holding like a flash drive and something that he could probably set a bomb off. >> he was later shot. he refused police calls for him to take his hands out of his pocket. the man survived that shooting. he's now in a baltimore hospital. it was a terrifying ride for a 6-year-old boy in texas after his seat belt broke while he was on a roller coaster. watch. r. >> here we go. >> i gotcha. you're fine, i promise. okay? >> poor little guy. look at the terror on his face. that 6-year-old casen latham. his dad happened to be recording while on the mousetrap roller coaster at the wonder land amusement park. his set belt came apart. this video popped up on facebook but after this wild

dunbarton bridge is also a little bit slow and 880 is better than normal from hayward to fremont so it's a mixed bag out there, some commutes are lighter than usual, others look more normal but on this friday i think you will probably, if you work monday through friday, you're probably thinking i don't care, let's just get through this. 7:45. let's go to rosemary. >> you're right. we have made it to the final business day of the week and it's a good looking day. it will be a little breezy for some, could irritate for our allergy sufferers, could have a bit of a bad day if the breeze is in your neighborhood. it is going to be a little bit strong over our hills tonight. a wind advisory a possibility. national weather service has already decided they will issue that for the hills. it will go until the overnight and then into the morning hours. take a look 59 what's happening right now, you can see all of the cloud cover that continues to spill into california. we have that northwesterly breeze and a westerly breeze expected for your afternoon, have to pull back to show you the ridge that is building over the pacific and that high

pressure, 1300 miles off the coastline. it will be -- as we get into the bay area weekend, that in addition to a system that is riding over -- or right on over the top of it and then dropping into areas of nevada and right down the border of california and nevada. that will actually spark the possibility of showers for tahoe at times, even thunderstorms in the forecast on sunday for lake tahoe if you're going in that direction. but for us, it's going to warm us up. going to bring the north- northeast breeze and we are looking at again very gusty conditions over the hills at some point later tonight and into tomorrow morning. here's your futurecast model, we will stop it here into the afternoon for today and talk about today first, so, again, breezy for many, anywhere from 10 to 15 miles per hour, maybe even 20 in areas like san francisco, half moon bay for the afternoon, but still west to northwest for your afternoon today as we get into saturday, though, things start to change and we are looking at north northeasterly winds for saturday as well as sunday. temperatures right now 48

a gun. he was arrested near the home in richmond where 16-year-old mariana seymour was killed. sonoma county reporting the first case of the zika virus. the patient had traveled to central america and was bitten by mosquitoes. zika virus is primarily spread by infected mosquitoes that are found in latin america and parts of the caribbean. the virus is dangerous to pregnant women especially because it can spread from a mother to her unborn baby, resulting in life altering birth defects. so far it has only made its way into the bay area by people who become infected after traveling to central america. now 35 positive cases here in california. time is 7:55. we have an update to the story of a chihuahua named ponch that led police on that chase on the bay bridge. now he's been placed into a new home. >> we already have a small dog and so he's going to be her brother. >> a big brother.

traffic has appeared on 880 from san leandro up to oakland as it normally does. what's gotten better is contra costa county, highway 4 is a little bit slow still but 680 looks good from the benicia bridge. we are beginning our 8:00 hour developing news from milpitas where early this morning there was an officer- involved shooting. it's under investigation. investigators say a suspect was shot and wounded. ktvu's janine de la vega, you have been there all morning. you have new developments. >> reporter: well, in the last 30 minutes, dave, they opened up both directions of calaveras boulevard. they were previously closed here. the one thing that is still shut down there where you see all the police cars is the northbound on-ramp to 680 here. that's still closed. it looks like they have also brought in heavy equipment to clear away some brush. we are not sure if that's because there is still some evidence over there that they need to look for but they have

been very meticulous in their investigation. it was a very large crime scene that stretched all the way across calaveras boulevard here to this motel where they just took down some crime tape. now, this shooting happened just before 1:00 this morning, an officer made a traffic stop on a cadillac and pulled into the parking lot of the executive inn. police say the officer and the suspect both exited their cars shortly after the shooting occurred. we don't know if the suspect had a weapon or what made the officer shoot. we are told the suspect ran across calaveras to the northbound 680 on-ramp, police caught up with him in the bushes there. motel guests say they heard two to three gunshots, some ran to the balcony and saw the suspect bleeding. >> he had a white shirt on and in that area, it's kind of wooded so the white stands out. you can see the area in red, you know and a few people that were standing there was like, oh, look, he's slumped over.

they shot him. >> reporter: that suspect was taken to the hospital where he is now being treated. his condition is unknown. police tell us he is a 27-year- old latino man from san jose, he has three outstanding no bail warrants out for his arrest. the officer involved was not injured. police are questioning him to figure out how this all unraveled. police say they may release some more details later today. as far as that entrance to northbound 680 from calaveras, we are being told that it may open by 9:00 a.m. again, that could change because we have been getting all sorts of time estimates from police throughout the morning. but right now they are saying possibly by 9:00. back to you. >> janine de la vega, thank you. time now 8:05. the chp investigating a deadly overnight crash in san ramon. it happened shortly before midnight on interstate 680 near bollinger canyon road. the chp says the driver of a

sedan was killed after slamming into the back of a large crane and two southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for several hours. the chp investigation into that cause of the crash continues. also new this morning, san francisco police chief greg suhr will hold a news conference at 11:00. he is going to announce new plan to fight bias within the police department. we are told the plan includes having all police officers attend antiharassment training effective immediately. this comes after the release of more racist and homophobe text -- homophobic text messages. the associated press says these transcripts include san francisco police officers ridiculing african americans in ferguson, missouri where police shot and killed an unarmed african-american man. turning now to the race for the white house. violence broke out last night outside a donald trump campaign stop in costa mesa in orange county. take a look at the pictures you

wednesday, just a little bit better than normal. 8:32, let's go back to the desk. in a few hours here the oldest of two brothers accused of killing his parents set to make his first appearance in the south bay courtroom. brian flores in the newsroom now with what that brother told a local newspaper about his younger brother's role in the alleged murder. >> 22-year-old hasib golam rabbi spoke with the san francisco chronicle in a jail house interview where he talks about how he says the truths of what happened coming out and how his little brother, a 17- year-old, is innocent. many people are wondering the reason behind the alleged killing of his parents, gol' lamb and -- golam and shamima rabbi here. he would not comment on his own guilt or innocence. his parents shot and killed in their own home in san jose's evergreen neighborhood. their bodies found after families and friends didn't hear from them for a while. san jose police arrested hasib and his little brother on wednesday on suspicion of murder charges. police have remained pretty

prison for allegedly arranging a sham marriage for his sister- in-law. agents served a search warrant at the home of syed farook's older brother in riverside county yesterday. the brother and his wife who are u.s. citizens and her sister from russia appeared in federal court a short time later. they are charged in a conspiracy to get a green card for the sister by paying a friend $200 a month for a sham marriage. gun control advocates taking bold action on tightening california's already tough gun laws. lieutenant governor gavin newsom says he'll turn in more than half million signatures to put a gun control initiative on the november ballot. the proposal will require background checks when buying ammunition. also have a process for felons to relinquish their firearms and require gun owners to report lost or stolen guns. time 8:35. the state wants pg&e to pay a $90 million fine because of the devastating butte fire last fall. the fire forced evacuations and burned 71,000 acres, destroyed

550 homes and killed two people as it spread to calaveras county. three days after the fire started, pg&e said a pine tree fell onto one of its powerlines and that started the fire. san francisco's building boom has the city considering tougher safety rules for all of those construction cranes towering over the city. since 2013, 56 of those cranes have risen in san francisco. yesterday at a public safety and neighborhood services hearing, there were calls for some local regulation changes. crane safety captured the attention at the -- of the board of supervisor after recent fatal construction crane collapses in new york city in february and then last month in florida. the city is considering changes like having onsite safety inspectors, also requiring a flagperson to be on site when a crane lifts a load over roads and over sidewalks. time is now 8:36. well, the san jose sharks ready to play, ready to open up a second round of the stanley cup

welcome back to mornings on 2. doctors, nurses and dozens of other workers at san francisco general hospital say there's a crisis involving their patients and they are demanding action. yesterday they rallied outside the hospital, claiming the

psychiatric unit is in a state of emergency. registered nurse who works in that unit says they often turn away mental health patients because of staff shortages. the nurses say there are also shortages in the emergency room and they fear when a new er opens next month, they will be forced to treat more patients but with the same amount of staff. >> that means that people that are having mental crises like suicidal ideations, they are hallucinating or hearing voices or schizophrenic or having severe depression they need to be sent to another hospital. >> the department says it does have gaps in the psychiatric care system and trying to fill the gaps primarily in the area of nonacute hospital care. nurses say they plan to appeal directly to city hall and the mayor next month and ask for more staff. hundreds of people attended last night's premiere of a

powerful new documentary about the life of audrie pott. she is the south bay teenager who took her own life after she was sexually assaulted, then bullied on social media. it was a painful night for her parents who were among those attending the premiere at the san francisco film festival. they hope this movie will put a spotlight on the devastating effects of cyber bullying on young people. >> tough night for us because it really opens up wounds whenever we see the movie. >> it just takes one voice to stop an event that could go horribly south like it did in audrie's case and it could change someone's life forever. >> two san francisco filmmakers made the documentary after being touched by audrie's tragic story. it happened four years ago. the saratoga high school sophomore passed out at a party and was sexually assaulted. photos of her half naked body
